Officers responded to the fast-food restaurant at 365 Rockaway Turnpike around 4 p.m. for reports of a suspicious man armed with a weapon, according to detectives.
Antonio Reyes, 47, undomiciled, was allegedly in a heated argument with two girls, ages 14 and 15, when he pulled out a knife and pointed it at them, placing them in fear for their lives. The terrified teens fled and called police, authorities said.
When officers later found Reyes, he refused to comply with verbal commands and menaced police with the knife, prompting them to deploy a Taser and OC spray to subdue him, according to the release. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported.
Reyes is charged with:
- Menacing a Police Officer
- Menacing 2nd Degree (two counts)
- Endangering the Welfare of a Child (two counts)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree
He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, March 7, 2025, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead, but in an updated release police wrote: "Defendant will be arraigned when medically practical."
